Hi, all

New Members Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi, all

I just wanted to introduce myself. I found this website and bought Brad's Eat Stop Eat ebook over the weekend.

Did my first 24 hour fast from 1pm Monday to 1pm today. It wasn't too bad as long as I didn't think about the fact that I was starving! :D

Actually, I think it was easier than trying to reduce calories on a daily basis. I knew that once I reached 24 hours, I could eat normally again for several days. I’m a grazer and trying to cut back is difficult for me to do. I’m used to eating small meals or a snack every few hours. Just knowing I couldn't eat again until lunch today took all the temptation out of it.

This fast also made it clear to me how unconsciously and often I pop food in my mouth. I’m not talking about candy or chips or anything like that. Maybe it’s a protein bar or fruits or vegetables, but I'm doing it without thinking.

I've always been athletic and work out regularly for the most part (running, biking, intervals, weights, yoga), although I find my motivation wanes in the winter. Despite my activities, I have metabolic syndrome (cholesterol and triglycerides that require meds, high normal blood sugar and the dreaded apple shape. At least my blood pressure is ok.) I also find it really hard to lose weight.

My goal is to lose 20-25 pounds and reduce or eliminate the metabolic syndrome. I think fasting may be a big help in reaching both goals. I'm 56 and do not expect to be languishing in an old folks home anytime soon. I'd prefer to live to 90 and go out while I'm running one more hill interval. :D
