How do you know you are progressing

Postby John Barban on Wed Aug 01, 2007 5:29 pm

I want to pose a question to all of you.

How do you know you are progressing towards your fitness and lifestyle goals?

What do you use as your measuring stick?

I personally go with the way I look. I don't really use a scale that much.
A yearly physical, or even a test of some important blood parameters can give you a good indication of many health parameters related to blood sugar, heart disease risks etc.

Performance is also a measure we use, testing our abilities on various exercises.

I really haven't been so great about sticking to (or even setting) goals. There's something about the accountability factor that seems to escape me. I get it logically, but it doesn't stick. I have to keep reminding myself that if I promise something to someone else, I always stick to it. The important thing to remember is that sticking to what I've promised myself is just as important!

So this is a work in progress for me. But I define progress by how I feel more than anything. I know when I'm on the right track and for the right reasons.

I definitely go with how I look -- it keeps me constantly aware and always re-setting and changing my goals accordingly.

I do also consider my est bf % though too, as I like to stay 14-15%, but will drop to 13% for specific needs.

My measuring stick

Postby barby130 on Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:31 pm

Hey everyone,
This is a great question. Considering my fitness goals right now are to lose weight, I have a few. At this point it is not so much the way I look, as the way I feel. When my clothes are getting bigger and baggier, then I know. That is a good measure for me. I like to also measure myself occasionally. When I started to get serious about losing, I measured all of my body parts. It feels great to see those inches coming off. Certainly another way is how I feel generally. I get so I feel better, more energetic, and a pride in what I have accomplished.
So for me its how things fit, the results I see, and how I feel that keep me up-to-date on how fit I am getting. I have a long ways to go to reach my goal, but I sure helps to see the changes along the way.
