starting and ending fast period

Postby jclcmg on Thu Sep 27, 2007 2:00 pm

Hi, I just read Eat Stop Eat on monday and decided to go on my first fast period. I had an early supper around 5:00 then stopped eating. Of course, evening was just as normal as any other day. I only drank some water. In the morning, I usually am a breakfast person, I can't do without it. But I did. And at noon time, no food either. I only drank a lot of water and herbal tea. That night, suppertime was late, past 6:00, so I had my usual supper after a 24 hours period without food.
I was wondering is this ok, since I only really skipped my morning and noon meals? even if I had the 24 hours period without food?

Thanks for bringing light to the subject.

hey there, i've been using this diet successfully for a bit now. I'm not sure i'm understanding your question...

are you asking is it ok to go futher than 24 (25 or 26 hrs) on a given fast?

are you asking is it going to beneficial b/c you're only skipping 2 "normal" meals on a fast day?

I apologize for my confusion!

clarification of question

Postby jclcmg on Thu Sep 27, 2007 5:15 pm

In fact, my question is: Since I am skipping only 2 meals a day (and they are usually the smallest since, at home, supper is the main meal of the day), I am really not skipping that much food input, even if I stay without eating for 24 full hours.

Is the 24 hours period more important than the actual food intake and when it is taken in relation to the time before and after the 24 hours period?

I read in the book that some people decide to start and stop their fast at 2 in the afternoon. So if they eat their regular meals at noon and at 5, for example, won't they stay fasting from about 1pm on the first day to 5 the next day, which gives a 28 hours fast if they don't take a little food in between meals?....

I hope this is more clear to you
Thanks

Hi Jo,

It doesn't really matter when you start and finish your fast. Typically most people will only be skipping 2 meals by doing this program no matter when they start and finish.

If the timing you just did worked for you then by all means continue doing it at these times. Regardless of how small you say your breakfast and lunch meals are, you're still eating significantly less calories if you remove them with the fast.

Figuring out what will work for you best will take some trial and error. I started with one fast per week, then I moved to one fast every 5 days...now I just count 'sleeps' between fasts. So I usually go 3 sleeps between fasts. It's all a matter of preference and how it fits into your lifestyle.

The effectiveness is a matter of how many calories you are removing on the day of the fast and how steady you keep your eating habits on your "eat days".

Give it some time and experiment with different fast start times and timing between your fasts...I'll bet in a couple months you'll have it down to a workable pattern that fits in your lifestyle.

I hope this helps, and let us know how it goes!

John
