Quick split

Postby maryyang on Fri Aug 17, 2007 2:17 am

It looks like lunge walk. I am concused. Can you tell me the difference?

I just finish Beginner's TT for Women and turned to your 6 Minutes Circuit. It usually takes me almost 1 hour to finish Beginner Circuit 1. Is it common? Should I train to failure? Thanks.

Hi Mary,

An hour fine...I usually can get em' done around 45mins...it just depends on how fast you do the actual exercises themselves...but its not a problem at an hour...(if you told me it was taking an hour and a half, then there would be some re tooling we would need to do)

Quick Splits...this is a bit of a tough one to visualize...but its a great exercise once you get em...(I'll post a video of these soon so you can really see what is involved) but in the meantime this is the explanation.

Start in a lunge position, now instead of taking a step swith your foot position as if you took a step but you dont' move forward.

Its like a lunge jump but without jumping...so you go from left leg forward to right leg forward as quickly as possible no jumping...or picture it like a lunge jump where you jump up and switch your feet in the air and land in the opposite position but now do it without jumping at all...just fire your legs through as fast as possible. Your head level shouldn't go up or down, your upper body should stay at the same level, and you should be able to get your legs through without jumping.

Does that make any more sense? I think the video will help once its up.

I'd like to see the video, too. I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

Ok sounds like video is required for this one...for now sub in reverse lunging if you think you're just not getting these right. I'll have video up early next week...let me know if there are any other confusing ones and I'll put up a video of those as well.

Which muscle are involved in quick split??

BTW I just did Beginner's Circuit 2 and found it's very good for training lower body. simple movements but challenging. I did reverse lunge for the first time and found it's better than squat which I never did right. Can't wait to do Circuit 3 and 4. Thanks.

Mary,

Quick Splits will hit your quads, butt, hip flexors, and hamstrings...it'll hit your abs too.

Like I said, it'll make more sense when you see the video.
